Powerful and Encouraging Birth Affirmations

One of the most powerful and effective tools for a pregnant woman during labor and birth are birth affirmations. Birth affirmations are short, positive statements that help to create and encourage confidence. They can be something you think to yourself, say aloud, or someone can tell you during labor and birth. They can also be written down on note cards and strategically placed around your home (on the fridge, on the bathroom mirror, by the shower and on the nightstand) and/or where you plan to labor and birth. Birth affirmations can be a refreshing resource to remind yourself that giving birth is not something to fear, but rather a challenge your body is equipped to achieve.

Birth affirmation cards are one tool, as a birth doula, I like to use when a mother is in labor. I encourage my clients to come up with some of their own birth affirmations. By doing this they will have personal words of encouragement that will help them during the tough stages of labor. Birth affirmations, when repeated and said aloud, help mothers release anxiety, build confidence and inner strength. Positive affirmations can make a world of difference during labor and birth.
